Sweet Dough for Bread and Doughnuts

Dry yeast (1 packet)
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup cream or sour cream
1/2 cup warm water
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup sugar
2 cups warm water
1/2 cup Crisco
5 cups flour
One egg, beaten

Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup warm water 
with 1/2 teaspoon sugar and let set a few minutes until it foams. Mix Crisco with 1/2 cup sugar until it is creamy. Add beaten egg, salt and warm water. Add dissolved yeast and sifted flour. Knead until dough is smooth and elastic. Set aside in warm place to rise until doubled in bulk. Punch down and let rise again. Shape dough into bread loafs and let rise in pan. Bake at 375-F for 45-50 minutes for bread. For Doughnuts, shape and deep fat fry until golden brown.
