PLAIN FRENCH TOAST RECIPE
Plain and Crunchy On The Outside
7 slices bread, Texas thick
3 tablespoon regular whole milk,
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract,
1 teaspoon sugar,
Extra Virgin Olive Oil (For frying)
Beat eggs, milk, salt, vanilla and
sugar together well. Heat a fry pan
large enough for two slices, set heat between low and medium adding two teaspoon extra virgin olive oil. (Using too high of a heat will burn the olive oil flavor and also burn the toast before it is cooked.)
Place a slice of bread in mixture, count to ten, turn it over and count to 10. Fry each side about 4 minutes or until a light golden brown. Let finished pieces cool to just warm before serving, warm the syrup before serving.
Makes enough batter for 7 slices
Note *To change this recipe from plain American French Toast you can give it a Mediterranean taste by adding a pinch of Chinese 5 spice mixed in well with the batter.
Let finished toast cool, sieve on a generous amount of confectionery sugar. Serve with favorite jam or jelly.
